Benefits of Lavender absolute

Lavender absolute is a highly concentrated aromatic substance derived from the flowers of the lavender plant (Lavandula). It is commonly used in perfumery and aromatherapy due to its strong and pleasant scent. The absolute is prized for its rich, full-bodied aroma that captures the essence of fresh lavender flowers.

The process of obtaining lavender absolute involves solvent extraction, which is a method used to extract essential oils and aromatic compounds from plant material. Here's a basic overview of the extraction process:

Harvesting: Lavender flowers are typically harvested when they are in full bloom, as this is when their essential oil content is the highest and the fragrance is most potent.

Extraction: The flowers are subjected to a solvent extraction process. The solvent used is often a food-grade solvent. The flowers are placed in a container and the solvent is added to it. The solvent dissolves the essential oils and other aromatic compounds present in the flowers, forming a mixture known as the "concrete."

Separation: The resulting mixture contains essential oil, waxes, pigments, and other plant components. To separate the essential oil from the other components, the concrete is mixed with alcohol (usually ethanol) and then chilled. This causes the waxes and other non-aromatic components to solidify, allowing them to be filtered out, leaving behind a liquid known as the "absolute."

Evaporation: The alcohol is then typically evaporated from the absolute, leaving behind the concentrated lavender absolute.

Lavender absolute is used in perfumery and cosmetics due to its intense and complex aroma. It is important to note that while lavender essential oil is commonly obtained through steam distillation, lavender absolute is obtained through solvent extraction, and the two substances may have slightly different aromatic profiles.

Keep in mind that the production of absolutes involves the use of solvents, which can lead to concerns about residual solvent traces in the final product. Therefore, it's essential to ensure that the lavender absolute you're using is sourced from reputable providers who follow appropriate extraction and purification practices.
